Dinner

“There is only one difference between a long life and a good dinner: that, in the dinner, the sweets come last.” – Robert Louis Stevenson

Whether you call it dinner, supper or tea there is no doubt that after a long day exploring Edinburgh you are going to want something good to eat.  Thankfully Edinburgh has a lot of top restaurants to pick for.  So to make things easier for you here are some of our top pics. Hope you enjoy!

Makars : Mon - Thu : 12 – 8:30pm, Fri-Sat : 12 – 9:30pm, Sun : 12 - 8pm

Makars Gourmet Mash Bar have a simple goal to demonstrate that there is much more to Scottish cuisine than the deep fried mars bar.  Their restaurant is located centrally on the Mound.  Because of this it is nice and easy to find.  They serve a wide variety of comfort food and do one of the best haggis dishes in town.  They have a strong commitment to high quality local food and great atmosphere.  This means they are a hit with the locals and those visiting from further away.

Heron : Wed - Fri : 5:30pm – 9:30pm, Sat - Sun : 12:00pm – 2pm, 5:30pm - 9:30pm

Heron is fine dining at its best. Heron is a Michelin starred relaxed modern restaurant with views overlooking the picturesque Water of Leith. They offer an a la carte and tasting menu that changes continuously, showcasing some of Scotland’s highest quality seasonal produce with their own unique and contemporary approach. There may be cheaper places to eat in Edinburgh but none as memorable. We absolutely recommend a visit here for special occasions.

The Mussel Inn : Mon - Thu : 12 – 3pm, 5:30pm – 10pm, Fri - Sat : 12 – 10pm, Sun 12:30 – 10pm

The Mussel Inn is an award winning seafood restaurant in the New Town.  Because of it's dedication to fresh produce it has become a popular venue for seafood lovers. We recommend you try the fish chowder and a kilo pot of mussels. The restaurant also have a very good pre-theatre menu and is located just a short walk from the Edinburgh Playhouse.  Don't worry if you are not keen on seafood.  They also offer steaks, burgers and vegetarian options.
